My son’s bathroom.

Our timeline:

Feb 13 – took before pictures

Feb 14 – primed, painted, and made color decisions

Feb 15 – did main painting

Feb 16 – did touch up second coats, took final pictures

So – it’s not that the bathroom was horrible. It was great six (or eight?) years ago when my sister-in-law redid the bathroom for my mom. It was cute for all the grandkids.

However, that bathroom has been mainly my son’s bathroom since he moved into the downstairs bedroom. It is also the guest bathroom when people come to stay. For a couple years he has wanted to re-do it, but I was doing school and didn’t have the energy or health to do anything. So, last fall I told him we would re-do the bathroom after all family was done staying here and it could be new and his first. I didn’t want to re-do it and have others using it before he got to enjoy what he picked out. (Also, I didn’t want to throw off my brother’s kids since they’ve been gone two years. They are young enough I didn’t want to mess with their memories by changing something they’d talked about.)

Vince loves the outdoors – bears, moose, fishing – but didn’t want a themed bathroom. To him that was too cutesy. So, we searched. He had specific colors in mind. I was thrilled to find the main paint color in the mis-tints at Lowe’s – $2.50? Yes, please! (this bathroom is so small [33.2 sq. ft], the one pint of mis-tint did double coats and we still have about 1/4 of the can left over-the two samples did multi-coats and I have about 1/4 of one sample left over)

As you can tell, the lighting in this room is horrible. There is never the possibility of any direct sunlight or daylight, and there are no windows. You can tell it was painted a very bright spring green, with white. I was concerned when Vince started talking about browns, reds, and no more white bead board. When we started painting I didn’t know he was wanting the white bead board to go. It took me a couple hours to agree – only because I was afraid this little room would become a dark, cave like, smelly hole — not cool in a boys bathroom! (I do not clean this bathroom, it is totally up to him to keep it clean.)

And one last close up. On the hooks, I just used the foam roller and dabbed the ends and around the edges to give some dimension. Not sure if it will stay or not, Vince said it looks like an open mouth…
