I may have mentioned a time or two, I love books; 😀 and I love to read books. I am usually reading several books at any given moment {this is even more true with a nook}. Even so, I usually only read one novel at a time, my absolute favorite is Christian historical fiction (including Biblical historical fiction). I have read very few non-Christian books because I get “into” the story so much I just can’t deal with the characters not turning to Christ in their circumstances. Then of course comes Christian Living books. This can really encompass so many kinds of books, I love the diversity of topics. This post will be about Christian Living books. I appreciate the learning opportunity and gaining a better understanding of how to be loved by my Heavenly Father and how to better love others. Then there are the many design, print, computer techy type of books & magazines I have in various stages of being read/worked through.
All of that to say….back in February I signed up for a program called “Blogging for Books“. {Just have to say – I’m so, so, very excited about this!} I went through the sign up process and when I started to look at the book options, there was one that screamed at me was, it was His Princess Love Letters from Your King, by Sheri Rose Shepherd.
I have seen this book and wanted to read it for several years, I didn’t even hesitate — I knew it was the one I wanted to start with. I had just started posting quotes from each chapter of Captivating and I thought how perfectly fitting it would be to read this book to reinforce the idea of being cherished.
His Princess did not fail. It is hard for me to grasp I am royalty. I am a child of the King. I am somebody special. I had no idea how beautiful this book is. I expected a book you just sit and read. I was wrong {& very glad to be}.
When you open the book it starts with “You did not choose Me but I chose you.” John 15:16 NLT. That verse prefaces a letter from Sheri Rose to the reader. She says, “I began to reflect on my own life and the years I wasted not knowing God’s plan, His purpose, and the power that was mine for the asking. (page 7)” She goes on to say, “I know how hard it is for us to look at our lives and think of ourselves as royalty. But the truth is, God is our King and we are chosen by Him (I Peter 2:9). Unfortunately, many of us have traded the truth of who God says we are for a tarnished version of ourselves, fashioned by the approval of others and adorned with our own insecurities. (page 9)”
Then you proceed through many, many thought provoking, comforting, encouraging letters from “your King”. Sheri says she searched Scripture and wrote what she “thought God might say personally to us if we would really hear Him with our heart, take Him at His Word, and have enough faith to believe what He says. (page 9)”
Do you have young women in your life graduating – high school or college? His Princess would be a perfect book to give them as a gift, including those who may not enjoy reading; it is even available in e-book format. How about your mom or a mother figure? Mother’s Day is right around the corner. This is a book to be read and absorbed, slowly. Not in one sitting. But over time, so you can really tuck the truths into your heart. You can visit Sheri Rose Shepherd’s website to learn more.
