I have only had my mom come to visit once in my life and I’m 38!  As in me being an adult, having my own place, and my mom coming for an overnight, weekend visit.

When I moved into my first apartment {1993, or was it in 1994?} my mom came to town and helped me make no-sew curtains and to see my place.  She was there a couple hours.

The one time my mom came to visit, I was 10 months pregnant.  She flew from Alaska to Oregon to see us; the baby was supposed to be almost a week old…but as babies are prone to do, he came when he was ready – which was 5 days after she got there.   He was born just hours before they were going to induce me because it was over two weeks from the last estimated due date.  He was due July 1 {he was born on the 17th!}.

I’ve lived in an apartment attached to my parents’ home since October 1999.  I am usually here year round and mom & dad go to Juneau from January to April/May each year.  So, I’ve heard people talk about getting ready for their mom/dad/parents coming and each year I clean their house to get it ready for her coming home, or if she comes for a weekend visit it’s been all about getting her house ready – and mine usually gets dumped on in the process.

Anyway…back to mom coming to visit.  She is coming home for a long weekend – but since others are staying in her house she’s actually coming to stay at mine.  How weird!  I’ve never cleaned MY house for her to come before.  It’s weird to clean places in MY house for her coming home.  But I really liked the motivation!  I’m hoping to get a few other projects done as well – but it feels so good to have so many places clean, and all at the same time! :-D!!

As I finished up cleaning I saw the sun was hitting my bed and I love those moments.  It was nearly 3pm and the sun was just getting far enough around to hit my pillows, it doesn’t happen often because in the summer the sun is too high for the sun to hit my pillows and in the winter it is usually too low to ever get into my room that late.

I absolutely LOVE my green and brown bedroom walls.  I only have the one wall green, the other three are the brown.  Everyone {mom, dad, brothers, sister-in-law} thought I was crazy to paint dark colors in my bedroom – but I did it anyway! I love it and have never regretted it.  I can’t wait to show you more photos of our room.  I’ve said before, I don’t get much light into my apartment at all – the bedroom is in the front of the house, so it gets morning on into the day sun.  The darker walls defined the space and made it all feel bigger.  The bedroom is a square, the same size as my living room – 15’x15′ [not including the closet-there will a post of it’s own on that]

My daughters corner of the world – all the dolls are waiting for mom.  She doesn’t normally voluntarily clean her “room”, but she’ll be sharing with my mom while I sleep on the couch.  The one window is just to the left of the bed, why the white is totally washed out.  {My son has his own room in my parents’ house and he’s still staying there even though others are there too.}

I know this is dark- but it is the “natural” light in my room :-D.  I couldn’t figure out any other way to get it in focus and see the ruffles.  I made these back pillow cases with a clearance shower curtain from Target.  It was part of the Shabby Chic line that my quilt/sham is as well.  I was just too cheap to buy a another set of pillowcases.

Total side note — this was 10pm last night.  This is the snow on the railing of the deck.  Do you see how much snow fell yesterday – just over 8″!  It was so pretty all day!  Not as much fun to drive home in last night, but really pretty.  Because of the snow and the light that reflects off, it was so bright and pretty at 8:30 this morning.  The beauty won’t last long though, the wind has already started blowing snow off the trees {sigh}.   Gotta’ go – they’re walking in the door.  😀 Have a wonderful weekend!
